There’s a new but familiar smell wafting through Leesburg Plaza—freshly baked pizza. Spanky’s Pizza & Subs held its official ribbon cutting on April 9, and for owner Azmi Zarou, it’s more than just a new business—it’s a return to his roots.
Zarou, who many locals already know from Spanky’s Shenanigans just across the parking lot, has taken over the former Rocco’s NY Pizza & Subs location. But here’s the twist—Zarou was once part-owner of Rocco’s before stepping away during the pandemic.
“I’ve been making pizza since I was 12 years old,” Zarou said at the grand opening. “So, I figured I’d go back into the pizza business again.”
He’s picking up where his father, Ramzi Zarou, left off when he brought classic, family-style pizza to Loudoun County back in 1974. That history lives on in every pie they’re sliding out of the oven now.
Before the reopening, the space was completely gutted and redesigned. The new setup features indoor seating, plus pickup and delivery options—something that’ll definitely come in handy for busy families and pizza lovers on the go.
The menu covers all the bases: wings, subs, pasta, salads, desserts—and yes, there’s even something for the kids and your dog. Beer and wine are also available, keeping the vibe relaxed and neighborhood-friendly.
Spanky’s Pizza & Subs is located at 62 Plaza Street NE, #E, in Leesburg. Locals can check out more at spankyspizzava.com, or catch their recent spotlight on “Locally Leesburg.”
This isn’t just another pizza joint—it’s a nod to Loudoun’s past, wrapped in red sauce and melted cheese.
